Clinical Hospital 4.4 ICU
The Hospital Clínic 4.4 ICU project, developed by Luxes, is an example of how intelligent lighting can change the way patients, doctors, and families perceive a hospital space. We developed a comprehensive lighting solution for the new infectious diseases room, a space designed to enhance the experience of patients in isolation and optimize the work of healthcare personnel.
Each light fixture, each reflection, and each color temperature were designed not only to illuminate but also to accompany the healing process.
What if light were also part of the treatment? In this project, the answer shines clearly.
A new paradigm in hospital design: light, precision, and calm
The lighting project developed by Luxes in the ICU 4.4 of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona represents a shift in the way healthcare spaces are conceived. Here, lighting is not limited to fulfilling a technical function: it becomes an extension of clinical care.
In the project images, it is evident how light defines the spaces. Warm tones coexist with the purity of clinical white, and the even distribution of lighting avoids harsh contrasts that could cause discomfort or visual fatigue.
This balance between form and function translates into a more human environment, where the lighting respects both the work of the staff and the serenity of the patient.
In this lighting project, Luxes responded to this challenge by incorporating circadian lighting systems, capable of reproducing the cycles of the day through subtle changes in color temperature and intensity. The light is reproduced with a cooler tone, promoting staff activity and a sense of alertness, while in the afternoon it softens with warmer tones that facilitate rest.
Hospitality in healthcare: when light becomes care
Each area of the Hospital Clínic 4.4 ICU required a balance between medical precision and emotional serenity.
In the hallways of the Clínic, illuminated with continuous lines of light, they convey order and orientation. This type of design—bright, yet non-intrusive—reduces visual fatigue and facilitates the movement of healthcare personnel, improving operational efficiency and the perception of safety.
Each room features controllable lighting from a custom-designed individual workstation, connected to the functional wall. This structure incorporates switchable glass and two-way communication, reducing patient anxiety without the need for constant physical intervention. Additionally, the uniform general lighting allows medical teams to perform tasks with precision, while the headboard areas are illuminated with adjustable spotlights that prevent shadows and glare.
The project not only prioritized human well-being but also environmental well-being. Thanks to the use of high-efficiency LED technology and automated control systems, energy consumption was significantly reduced, ensuring sustainable operation in the long term.
The Luxes Hospital Clínic 4.4 ICU project is a demonstration that, through meticulous design, advanced technology, and a deep understanding of the hospital environment, lighting is an ally in hospitals.
