Knem Offices

KNEM is the result of the rehabilitation of the old jute spinning factory, popularly known as "El Cànem." Located in the 22@ technological district of Barcelona, this new space combines industrial architecture, modern offices, and green areas to offer a contemporary work experience.​

The KNEM Offices project represents an outstanding example of how interior lighting can transform a workspace into a unique visual and functional experience. The company LUXES carried out the design and execution of the lighting project, integrating sustainable and efficient solutions to ensure the physical and mental well-being of the workers.

The importance of lighting in corporate offices

The lighting project developed by LUXES was based on a prior study of the visual and energy needs of the environment. Once the preliminary study was completed, the Zulyt system was installed, a linear system designed to generate continuous lines of light with a wide variety of optics, diffusers, and lengths. Thanks to its versatility, it was the perfect solution, as the system could adapt to the lighting distribution of each area of the space, taking into account the entry of natural light and the organization of the furniture.​

The main objective of Luxes in this project was to help employees face their workday more motivated and in a more productive way. To achieve this, natural light sources and the distribution of lighting fixtures were taken into account, in order to avoid eye strain and, on the other hand, excessive light.

In the work areas, a combination of direct and indirect lighting was used, ensuring optimal levels of luminance and avoiding glare. This translates to a comfortable space where employees can focus and maintain consistent productivity.​

Meanwhile, in common areas, warm and relaxing lighting was integrated into rest, dining, and leisure zones. This contrast enhances spatial perception and promotes visual disconnection, creating a more human and balanced environment.

It is worth noting that Luxes has carried out this lighting project in compliance with the UNE –EN 126464-1 standard, which gathers the lighting requirements for indoor workplaces according to comfort needs and visual performance.
