Clinical Institute of Ophthalmology

The Hospital Clínic de Barcelona inaugurated its surgical block for ophthalmological interventions in 2020. The installation in the public hospital corresponds to a new design of spaces that features the best cutting-edge technologies on the market. The Clínic has decided to create four fully equipped operating rooms with innovations never seen before in the sector, and the lighting project for these spaces was handled by LUXES.

Thanks to the new technologies installed and the top-quality lighting provided by LUXES, the most anticipated results have been achieved after three years of intense work. For this reason, it was also crucial to carefully design the operating rooms to create a sense of comfort in spacious areas and optimal lighting. In environments where every visual detail matters, light cannot be a neutral element. At the Institute of Ophthalmology of the Hospital Clínic, we developed a customized lighting solution that meets the demands of precision, comfort, and control inherent in a highly specialized surgical space.

Technical lighting with architectural language

The lighting proposal was integrated from a technical and aesthetic perspective, adapting the light to the specific requirements of ophthalmological activities. Each room, from the operating theaters to the diagnostic or recovery areas, was designed with specific lighting criteria:

• Surgical rooms and laser rooms: neutral and controlled white light, with adjustable systems that prevent shadows and enhance the concentration of the medical team.​
• Consultation and recovery areas: warm and enveloping lighting that creates a relaxing atmosphere for the patient without compromising the visibility of the healthcare staff.​
• Hallways and common areas: combinations of indirect lighting and dynamic scenes that guide and enhance the spatial experience.​

This comprehensive approach to lighting design reinforces the idea that good lighting not only helps you see better but also helps you feel better.

Innovation and design in hospital lighting

The project of the Institute of Ophthalmology combines state-of-the-art LED technology, digital control, and integrated architectural design.
